How Do I Initiate a Multi-party Video Call?

A multi-party video call allows you to connect to more than one buddy in a video call.

Initiating a Multi-party Video Call with Buddy List

1. Click the Buddy List that appears on the lower right hand side corner of the Convergence window. The Messenger buddy list appears.
2. Do one of the following:

   • Initiate an IM chat with a single buddy, add additional buddies, and convert the chat to a video call:

   • 1. Double-click an online buddy. An IM chat box opens.

     2. Click the double arrow (<<) icon under the toolbar. The Participants tab appears.

     3. In the Invite Participants field, enter the name of the online buddy you want to add to the call. Additional Participants are listed on the Participants tab.

     4. Click the video camera icon on the chat box toolbar.
        If your browser asks permission to share your microphone and webcam, accept the request.

   • Initiate a video call with multiple buddies:

   • 1. On your keyboard, hold the CTRL key and select multiple online buddies.

     2. Click the video camera icon on the Buddy List toolbar or right-click on a selected buddy and select Video Call.
        If your browser asks permission to share your microphone and webcam, accept the request.

Your buddies receive an invitation to join the video call, which they can accept or reject. If they decline, you see a message that they either declined or are busy.

You can add additional buddies at any time during the call. A multi-party video call can include 5 buddies and yourself.

Once the video connection is established, you can:

• Adjust the volume (using the volume slider)
• Place the call on hold (by clicking the pause icon). Other buddies can still talk with and see each other while on hold. See: How Do I Put a Voice or Video Call on Hold?  Remove yourself from hold by clicking the Resume icon.
• Mute and unmute yourself (by clicking the microphone icon)
• Share your screen. See: How Do I Share My Screen?
• Terminate the call (by clicking the red phone icon). Only you, as the initiator, can end the call (though buddies can hang up and leave).
• Transfer the call (by clicking the transfer icon). Transfer the call to another participant if you want to leave the call without terminating it.
